HFMD

As you all know, we've had some cases of hand foot and mouth disease in our school recently, with 3 of those cases being in SK. After 2 days of closing Block A to clean last week, unfortunately, there was a new case in another classroom on Friday. Please be vigilant with hand washing and check your child's temperature, mouth and hands before bringing them to school every morning. Upon arriving at school, please take your child directly to the nurses office, where she can clear students to go to their respective classrooms.

If your child was diagnosed with HFMD, please wait 10 days before returning to school and bring a medical certificate to show they have a clean bill of health.

Character Day

This Thursday, April 26 marks the end of Spring into Reading Month. We get to dress up as our favourite book characters and share our favourite stories with one another. Keep your costume simple and easy by using things you already have around the house.

Please also bring the book if you have it. Look for it in our library!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

For Earth Day, Peacemaker Panda took us down to the big yellow bin to recycle the paper and plastic products that we brought from home. We learned that not everything we use goes into the garbage. We can reuse some things like James Y's tissue box that he made into a monster, the big shoe box that Daniel brought in can be a treasure chest, and Shinyun's yogurt container can be used in our restaurant!

Earth Day

This coming Sunday, April 22nd is Earth Day, an annual event created to celebrate the planet's environment and raise public awareness about pollution. We are going to celebrate in school this Friday by wearing blue, brown or green to show our support and commitment to our planet.

Here are some videos you can watch and a game you can play with your kids to get the conversation started about recycling at home!

What the Ladybird Heard

Today our Mystery Reader read one of Jamie A's favourites called What the Ladybird Heard. With all the MOOing and HISSing and BAAAing and CLUCKing, it's a fun read.

Thanks to Matt for coming in today. And as always, Miss Fanny, who reads with us every Thursday.

If you'd like to read the story and find the ladybird on every page, click on the image below.

A mini-van!
Anya

What do you call a bear with no teeth?
A gummy bear!
Jamie A

Why can't you give Elsa a balloon?
Because she will let it go!
 KeRol

What do you call a cow on a trampoline?
A milkshake!
Edward

The ice is fire!
Jamie Y

How do you make an octopus laugh?
You give it ten-tickles!
James Y

What is a flower with no water?
A caterpillar!
 Sergei

Why do giraffes have long necks?
Because they have stinky feet!
James Y

What has a head and hands but no legs?
"I'm not telling!"
(Answer: A clock!)

Letters and Sight Words of the Week

This week we are working on the letters C & K.

We are also starting to introduce sight words to the children. Sight words typically refer to a set of about 100 words that appear frequently in text. As well as being frequent, many of these words cannot be sounded out, so they must be learned by sight. Recognizing sight words is a big step towards reading.

Our sight words this week are:
 Go / See / Can / My / Me

You can help at home by pointing out these words in the books you read and using them frequently in your sentences.

Camp Out Day

Reading by flashlight around the fire, roasting marshmallows and singing camp songs in our pajamas with our Reading Buddies, was the perfect way to celebrate Camp Out Day!

3. I speak Kazakh

Can you guess?

Thanks Assel for being our first Mystery Reader. Saniya was super surprised!
