Sight Word Snowballs

Our Patty Sight Words for the first week in September are:

at / ate / did / do / went

You can practice at home by having a snowball fight!

You or your little one can write each sight word on a piece of paper. Take the paper and crumple it up into a snowball. Play some fun music while you toss the snowballs around the room. When the music stops, so do you. Pick up the nearest snowball and read the sight word. When the music begins again, crumple it back up and continue the sight word snowball fight.

Hari Merdeka

Tomorrow Thursday, August 30th, we will be celebrating Malaysia's Independence Day. Hari Merdeka, also known as National Day, refers to the day when the Federation of Malaya's independence from the British Empire was officially declared.

Feel free to wear a traditional Malay outfit if you have one. If you don't, you can wear something with one of the colors of the flag; blue, red or white!

Make No Bones About It

Today was our first cooking class of the semester and in keeping with our body theme, we made veggie skeletons. Using celery, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, peppers and mushrooms we made some pretty delicious creations. The best part was, the kids had to try every veggie they used!

Our Bodies

All this month we have been learning about our teeth and bodies through our play centres. The doctor dramatic play center is one of our favourites!

Our water table has been turned into a blood bank, where we have to use our fine motor skills to sort the red blood cells (water babies) from the white blood cells (ping pong balls) and the platelets (marbles).

Our sand table is where we pretend we are archaeologist digging for bones! Once we find all the pieces, we must put the puzzle together.

We've been learning about our major organs, as well as labeling all our body parts.

We've also been exploring animal X-Rays on our light table and matching them up with their photos.

CVC Words

In kindergarten, we work really hard on reading, writing and building CVC {consonant, vowel, consonant} words! It is the foundation of becoming a great reader and writer.

Here's how we practice at school:

For practice at home, click on the song and the games below to find the one that's right for your child's interest and ability.
