My Yellow Umbrella

My Yellow Umbrella is one of the books we read this week to learn about colors, spring and all of life's possibilities.

Character Day

Dragons, superheros, princesses and pirates! We celebrated the end of Spring into Reading with Book Character Day. We shared our books, our superpowers and crashed the school assembly to show off our costumes.

Great job parents! Thanks so much for making this a really special day. Please find more pictures on the bulletin board behind the cafeteria next week.

Sorting and Measuring

Shorter than, longer than or the same length?
Heavier, lighter or the same weight?

These are some great questions to ask at home!

Letter Hunt

For today's Spring into Reading activity we went on a letter hunt. Someone stole all the letters from our room and it was our job to get them back! Jr. Kindergarten searched the school for all the letters from our alphabet mat and put them back in the right spot. Senior students completed a pirate treasure map and then had to find one item for each matching letter.

We have some great detectives in our class and got all our letters back!

Beach Day!

Friday was Beach Day and while the weather didn't exactly cooperate, we still had a blast! We had to forgo all of our outdoor activities but we were able to bring a bit of the beach into the classroom thanks to Ms Benitha and Ms Shahanah!

Bugs!

This week we're finishing up our unit on bugs. We caught some bugs in our fingerprint bug jar and made some cool butterflies, caterpillars and spiders out of modelling clay.

Measuring

Our new unit in math is all about measuring! We are using all kinds of items, like string and cubes to measure everything we can get our hands on – including our feet.

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

One of the student's favourite books is 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. They learned the words and actions in music class and love to sing along to the book!

We're going on a bear hunt.
We're going to catch a big one.
What a beautiful day!
We're not scared.

Ready for some fun? Come along!

What's a pirates favourite letter?

RRRRRR!

What do cows do for fun?
They go to the moo-vies! -Brennen

What four days start with the letter 'T'?
Tuesday, Thursday, today and tomorrow! - Medha

Thanks to everyone who brought in a joke or riddle today!

Spring into Reading Reminders!

This week for Spring into Reading we have Joke Day on Wednesday. Bring in a silly knock-knock joke or stump us with a riddle.

Friday is Beach Day, so wear your shorts and sunglasses and bring a book to read on the beach! We may get a little wet, so an extra shirt wouldn't hurt either!

Egg Drop STEM Challenge

For our science lesson today we dropped eggs from the second floor – without breaking them!

Actually, we broke them all but we had fun making predictions and thinking of ways to protect our eggs. We tried wrapping our eggs in corn husks, bread, paper towels, plastic cups, a face towel and we even added a parachute. Sadly, even our Incredible Hulk socks couldn't protect the eggs.

Crazy Hat Day!

I saw some really creative hat's walk through the door this morning. And for those of us who didn't bring one (me!), we all made our very own hat, cat in the hat style!

I didn't think Rintaro could get any cuter until I saw him in his monster flower hat today. And hat's off to Liam's mom and sister for a truly awesome creation! You'll have to check the bulletin board in the hall beside the health room to see it!

Our Favorite Books!

Just how big is a crocodile? What about a tiger, or the world’s largest spider? Can you imagine a tongue that is two feet long or an eye that is bigger than your head?

Thanks Hugo for sharing your favorite book Actual Size. We also read Brennen's favorite Clifford the Big Red Dog, Inez's Mermaid book, Shawn's The Very Quiet Cricket and Raphael showed us his favorite Dinosaur book!

Thank you to everyone who remembered to bring in a book this week.

Reading Buddies

Thanks Ms. Amy for bringing your grade 5 & 6's to read to us during pajama day!

Super Why!

Four fairytale friends go on magical adventures and become reading-powered superheroes. The characters live in Storybook Village and we can follow the Super Readers as they jump into books that come to life.

The goal of the Super Readers is to follow the storyline to solve the problem. As they progress through the story, they encounter obstacles, which can be solved by applying their literacy skills to change the story. As they overcome these obstacles, they are rewarded with glittery red Super Letters

Can you find all the Super Letters and help solve the super big problem?
